IBS is a common condition of the digestive system and the symptoms can affect people in different ways. It is thought to affect 20% of the population at some time in their lives. I have undertaken further training in hypnotherapy for IBS and it is an area of hypnotherapy that I specialise in.
Research by Professor Whorwell, a leading gastroenterologist in Manchester, shows that hypnotherapy can make a significant contribution to the treatment and management of symptoms of IBS. Improvements in overall well-being, quality of life, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea and bloating have been recorded.
Hypnotherapy is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as an appropriate treatment for IBS. Recent research in UK clinics, on the effectiveness of an IBS treatment programme has demonstrated an improvement in 97% of cases.
Before undertaking hypnotherapy it is important that IBS is diagnosed by your doctor so that he or she can rule out other causes of your symptoms.
